2010 Grants Announced at KiDS Awards Dinner

At its 2010 Awards Dinner, KiDS announced 28 grants totaling more than $500,000, as well as an additional $140,000 in funding for requests through the KiDS Holiday Wish List.
The annual gathering recognizes the recipients of funds raised the previous year by KiDS. The grants, based on requests from the faculty and staff who provide care to children throughout NYU Langone Medical Center, help to support quality of life, teaching and research, and equipment and technology. In many cases, funding may not be available from other sources.
"KiDS has been a remarkable friend and advocate for all that is good for children," said Dr. Catherine Manno, chair of the Department of Pediatrics, who noted in particular KiDS' recent involvement in expanding the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Program at Tisch Hospital.
In keeping with tradition, Alice Tisch, Chair of KiDS, introduced several past grant recipients who shared their stories, including Dr. Joan Gold, clinical director of children's rehabilitation services at Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Dr. Gold and her team have received ongoing support from KiDS for adaptive bicycles and other aids for children undergoing treatment at Rusk.
"It’s not just a matter of equipment, but of inspiring children to establish a sense of passion and possibility,” she told the audience. "You are a part of that, and we are all so very grateful."
As in past years, the toys that formed the table centerpieces -- colorful puppets -- were delivered to the Pediatric Unit the following day.
