2009 Springfling Gala Raises $1.4 Million
September 17, 2009
The 18th annual Springfling gala drew more than 400 guests who helped raise over $1.4 million. The funds will benefit the growing pediatric gastroenterology program, as well as provide ongoing funding for clinical and support services through the Annual KiDS Grants Awards.
The evening paid tribute to Ellen and Edwin Weiss, M.D., who founded the Adam Scott Weiss Cancer Memorial Fund in honor of their son. For more than 25 years, the fund has supported improvements to the Tisch Hospital Pediatric Unit (including the playroom, parent room, café, library and procedure room), enhancing the atmosphere for pediatric patients.
In addition, Joseph Levy, M.D., director of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, was honored. Dr. Levy praised the dedication of NYU's pediatric team who are involved in diagnosing and caring for children with complex digestive and nutritional issues.
"Pediatrics at NYU is practiced with brilliant minds and lots of heart," Dr. Levy said. "We all share a very similar vision of what caring for a child is about: compassion combined with excellence of service, with personalized care every step of the way."
Trudy and Bob Gottesman and Janet and Howard Ginsburg, M.D., served as gala co-chairs.
